We recently visited this restaurant as a bit of a treat as we can't afford to eat out as much these days and we really enjoyed our time and the meal.

We were greeted at the door and shown to our table and the service over all was really good, they were really helpful about the menu and explained the dishes when asked.

Our server offered us more drinks and asked if everything was okay. We opted for the ribs and the steak and the food was lovely.

Its unfortunate that some people expect 5* food all the time and make a meal out of nothing.

If you had to wait for a table, then id recommend you book next time.

We stopped by for breakfast on the way home from a camping trip. We had to use wet wipes to clean our table because it was all sticky. The whole place felt grubby and the staff looked miserable. The food was a let down-cheap ingredients with no flavour. Give this one a miss.

We are from Scotland and have friends in Cornwall, when visiting friends Route 38 is a highlight of our holiday. We came 3 years ago and loved it! The food was lovely, the atmosphere is friendly and the over all experience was brilliant! We returned to Cornwall last week and decided we would go for lunch there again and the experience was much the same!( amazing) We even went back for breakfast the next morning which prepared us for the trip home! We both love the restaurant and could not fault it at all! We even took pictures of the food we ordered as the portion sizes are huge and the food looks fantastic! We have showed our friends and recommended them to pay a visit there if in Cornwall! We will definately be back. :) A+++

We live local and have been about 3 times, the first was ok but the second 2 times were awful so we haven't returned since.

On the positive side-portions are quite big, breakfast menu is varied e.g pancakes and syrup, cooked breakfast etc.

On the negative side-the second time we visited we waited more than 20 mins for someone to come and take our order, that was only after going to the bar and asking for someone to come over. The staff were unfriendly, we commented that they were busy and the reply was 'well obviously, it is bank holiday'. Sarcasm you don't expect in a restaurant!

Noone came to ask if we wanted more drinks or if food was ok and we had to ask someone for the bill as noone came over.

Put this down to bad experience so went again a few months after. Third time was unfortunately worse. Husband asked at the bar for a beer on arrival and was refused and told to order with his meal. After ordering our food, drinks arrived but food never came, so we flagged down a staff member to find out that the waiting staff had forgot to pass our order through to the kitchen. Staff were unapologetic and unfriendly again. We haven't been back since.

This restaurant would be so good if they got some good staff with some customer service training.

Just been to Route 38 for dinner, never again. We waited for 30 mins in the front of house packed like sardines with people trying to get out pushing past, knowing that there were at least 4 tables empty? When we were shown to a table we waited 15 mins for some one to take our order and another 35 mins for the the food. We paid £6.95 for over cooked chicken wraps and french fries with a bit of salad. We wont even start on the childrens food.So they wont be seing my custom again.

We have eaten at route 38 several times and has been fairly good each time, however we went there for brunch on Sunday, firstly it was 15 minutes from being seated before one of us caved in and asked for someone to take our order for drinks and food. the when the drinks arrived there was 2 coffees for my wife and I our son had order a fizzy drink, which we presumed was coming out, we waited another 5 minutes and had to ask again for the drink. the breakfast was OK but nothing special, my wife had a bagel which she said was like cardboard and awful. We have been to the USA several times and visited many diners, the one thing that Route 38 isn't is authentic, the staff need a course in manners and how to treat a customer. the staff gave the impression that they would rather be at home. Don,t think we will be going back.

We stopped for breakfast there at 10.30am last Friday. It was about a third full. It took ages (15mins) for someone to take our order. I had to ask a passing girl who had cleaned adjoining tables if someone would take our order. The cooked breakfast was not too bad but the staff were unsmiling and seemed to scowl at the customers. They just seemed like they didn't want to be there. Tip to the owner - get some better staff and TRAIN them. Just employing local untrained staff doesn't work.

We went last night for a celebration meal for the birth of my new granddaughter, we were very disappointed. I ordered a shrimp salad and it was horrid! It was like a big prawn cocktail with a very

acid sauce, I could only eat a few mouthfuls and spent the night having stomach cramps. My son had a chicken burger and he hated it the food was greasy...... For the 6 of us it cost £86.00 and it was a total rip-off. I can only give it a 1.

My 12 year old liked the ambiance. Neither of us liked the food, the fries were like macdonalds, the chicken rock hard, the sauce onmthe pork was tasteless, the tomatoes burnt, the sweetcorn cremated and dry. Not once was i asked if everything was ok, until i went to pay, when i told the girl my feelings she just looked at me.

I think the chef should taste his food.

Overall rating : if you want quantity without taste then this is for you.
