Horrendous experience at the Rock Inn.

We had had a drink the evening before and felt the location would be nice to have an evening meal. We arrived at 8.10pm on Saturday night, I asked for a menu and the (very young) member of staff went to consult another colleague. Whilst I was watching, the other member of staff looked across the room at me and shook her head and made a face. Not a good start. The young lady then returned across the room to me to inform me that she couldn't give me a menu and that they were full! Only two people eating at the time on the balcony and two thirds of the restaurant empty!

We decided to leave and I approached a gentlemen who had arrived to look at the bookings book and explained that I was more than a little surprised to be turned away bearing in mind the place was quite empty. I later discovered that he was the owner 'Jeremy' he asked me what I meant. I explained what had just occurred and the girl that had made the face raced out from behind the booking station and told me they hadnt said that and that they had informed us the food would be a 20 minute wait? Where was the menu then?

I informed him that this wasnt the case at all - the other young lady looked very embarrassed and turned her back on everyone. Meanwhile Jeremy said there had been a misunderstanding. I informed him there definately had not been a misunderstanding and asked the first girl to confirm she had told me we couldnt eat there. She was very embarrassed and confirmed that she had. Jeremy then went on again to say there had been a misunderstanding and offered no apology whatsoever. It appears the staff are rather taking the mickey out of Jeremy and are incredibly lazy and basically as he hadnt been there when we arrived, couldnt be bothered to serve us and actually do some work.

The evening before we had bought a drink there and the young staff were all chatting at the bar and we had to wait at the bar for a drink rather than being served at our table. The reason we chose to go back was there were a great number of tables with reserved on them at 10.30pm and had assumed it must be a good place to eat, I think it was more likely a case that they reserved all the tables not to have to work! It would seem after our experience that this is simply not the only case, and having discussed with a large number of other people over the weekend that this service isnt just for the grockles, but also for the locals. I would not recommend this place at all. We had great meals at the `Mariners and a really warm welcome. Also had a great meal at the St Enodoc. Dont go to this pub. Jeremy needs to get his act together else he wont have a business by the end of the summer if he allows his staff to bareface lie to customers and himself to avoid doing any work and not have the ability to offer an apology. Unfortunately had to put a 1 for the rating but wouldnt actually give that if there was a '0'
