Polgooth Inn review
Well! All I can say is what an improvement. They place has been transformed, families are now welcome in the pub and the menu and value is great. The portion size are more than adequate and not the monsterous size they were before, and very good value.
The staff were really good and attentive, and the atmosphere was comforting and welcoming.
Will certainly be returning in the near future, Loved it. -

Polgooth Inn review
Up until last month, we would have said this was our favourite pub. We visited for all family birthdays and sometimes in between. Food was always excellent and the place was so busy it was sometimes difficult to find a table. However, my husband's birthday today will likely be our last. New landlords have taken over the pub and things have sadly changed. Perhaps I am being harsh, maybe this is teething trouble, but our first experience of the Polgooth Inn since the change of management was not good.
On arriving, we initially noticed the pub was unusually quiet for a Saturday lunchtime. The first problem we had was the menu being incorrect. I asked the staff on the servery counter whether children's menu and "light bites" meals were still available and she replied that they were on the menu - but they apparently were not on the one I picked up, nor the next copy either - she then gave me a correct menu (both the ones I had picked up had a page missing!). Then our order was taken incorrectly, and when food arrived, my husband's meal had to be returned and corrected. Meanwhile, we were very disappointed at the portion sizes, which were considerably reduced on the generous portions we had enjoyed on our previous visits. The accompanying "side salad" was a collection of green leaves, no slice of tomato, onion rings, crispy lettuce and cress as previously provided. My son had a child's cod and chips and hubby (eventually) received his "light bites" cod and chips - the piece of cod was the same size on both plates, and the only apparent difference being the amount of chips on my hubby's plate. The crispy, beer batter we had become used to was also sadly lacking. My "light bites" portion of scampi was also considerably smaller than previously. The food was quite edible, but sadly no where near the quality and quantity we have come to expect from our many previous visits to the Polgooth Inn. Maybe this is a ploy to get people to buy a dessert, as on previous meals here, we have been far too full to even contemplate a second course. Today, we left feeling slightly hungry, and very disappointed.
It is such a shame as it takes a very long time to build up such a good reputation that the Polgooth Inn had. Sadly I don't think we will be making a special trip to this establishment any time soon.
