Gaudi\'s review
We were really looking forward to our meal at Gaudi’s on Sat 8th Nov after reading the great reviews.
Everything was fine for the first 15 mins until we ordered. We were then told that the artichoke starter wasn’t available as they’d not had any artichokes delivered, but that they’d replaced the artichoke with apple instead. Strange choice we thought.
About 5 mins after we had ordered, the waiter came back to inform us that they had burnt all the sauté potatoes, so would we like to make another choice. Trouble was the only other choice was mashed! So no choice at all then! We ended up just ordering 3 portions of mash potato.
When our starters arrived, my friend’s hot pigeon starter was served on a cold glass plate, so was already fairly tepid. The other 3 starters were fine, especially the scallops which were gorgeous.
Then came the main course. My friend’s, once again on a cold, glass plate. Her meat was extremely tough, and all 4 of the mains were barely warm, which was such a shame as the quality of the remaining meat dishes was very good.
When the waiter came over, we told him of our concerns. He apologised, and then went to talk to the chef. When he came back, he just said that venison isn’t served piping hot (presumably as it has to rest??) I pointed out that my husband cooks venison regularly and always manages to serve it hot. We were also served 4 portions of mashed potato when we had only asked for 3, but I assumed that this was just as an “extra” as we weren’t getting the sautéed due to their error.
No further apology was forthcoming and no visit to us by the chef which I was expecting, especially if he cared about his customers.
On to dessert, which for me was the best part of the evening. However even this had faults. The dessert menus were A5 photocopies, paper-knifed down 2 sides – not terribly professional. Added to that, there were no prices on them!
When the cutlery was brought over, the waiter actually apologised to one of our party, as he proceeded to put down a SOUP spoon!!!! We were absolutely stunned. The restaurant was less than half full on a Saturday night – now I see why.
Dessert was delicious, but the soup spoon wouldn’t fit into the ice cream pot – yet another Fawlty Towers moment!
When the bill came, lo and behold, they’d charged us for 4 portions of potato. This really was the last straw. We got this amount taken off the bill, but there was no further offer of a reduction for what, in my opinion, was the worst experience I’ve ever had in what was supposed to be a class restaurant.
Maybe the chef and his entire staff were having a bad day?
Even so – there was NO excuse for burning food, serving cold food and lack of correct cutlery. Not at those prices!
I will never return to Gaudi’s and I suggest a note of caution to anyone else who ventures in.
It's obviously nowhere near as good as it used to be.

Gaudi\'s review
we went to gaudi's this evening, the whole evening was really quite wonderful, a starter of scallops followed by a main of lamb and rounded off with Niks signature dish if bread and butter pudding, the creme anglaise was so smooth and silky it made you want to lay under the table and have your tummy tickled, fine food, cooked to perfection, unobtrusive yet attentive service....will i return...many times.... -

Gaudi\'s review
Sydney australia being 'the city' of resturants My sister fresh up top for a few weeks I knew we had to try Gaudi's. Blown away by a mackerel on chorizo and dill sauce starter we headed for different mains. My rissotto with parmesan and roasted pumpkin seeds was divine inspiration ,deep flavours left me utterly satisfied.
Ros's beautifully cooked lamb and perfectly cooked vegetables were enough to seriously impress.
A couple of glasses of Gaudi's house wine later served by considerate and friendly waiter and waitress and the bill couldnt quite reach £60.Outrageously good value for this kind of resturant experience. I felt like tipping euphorically but ended up being realistic within my modest limits. Final comment .You'd be mad not too!

Gaudi\'s review
We had lunch at gaudi,s last week. I was expecting something special after reading the reviews beforehand. Two of us ordered steak sandwiches, they were so chewy it gave them both jaw ache. The starters seemed overpriced, i tried the scallops, but for £8.50 i expected more than two. My meal was nice,(pork)and mashed potato, but the veg came ten minutes after the main course. They were not busy only four more diners as well as the three of us. they did give us a discount when we complained about the steak, but overall it was a very dissapointing experience, don.t think we will be going there again. Much prefer Viners. -

Gaudi\'s review
I have eaten in some of the finest restaurants in Europe including La Terrazza at Hotel Eden, Don Alfonso at Le Sirenuse and Le Cinq at the George V Paris to name but a few. I found the food and service at Gaudi's was on a par, I appreciate that this is a very bold statement to make but one that is fully deserved. Nik Boyle is an inspiration to young chefs everywhere. His vision, style and pursuit of excellence makes for one of the finest if not the finest dining experience in Cornwall. Those wanting uncompromising food and service then forget about Jamie Oliver at Whitegate Bay or Rick Stein in Padstow, Nik Boyles “Guidi’s” is the real thing and Cornwall’s next hope for a Michelin Star……and well deserved it would be.
