Carn Brea Castle Restaurant review
We dined at this restaurant on the 30th November, 2011. What an amazing experience!!! Finding it in the darkness was an adventure and an achievement. We were met by the owner who was extremely welcoming and friendly, the ambience was amazing as was the food.
An experience that will be remembered fondly for a long long time!!! -

Carn Brea Castle Restaurant review
After dining in some unusual palces all over the world this has to be in the top 10. Location - Unique, Atmosphere - extraordinary, Menu although limited has something for everybody, Steaks are done to perfection and we would recommend the Steak Cara, and the Sayadeyah (Tiger prawns) was delicious. The Mezze for the whole table is to be highly recommended but you must order this in advance.
The house wines are excellent, although the range of beers and spirits is limited. Your host Mr Sawalha is most accommodating and very ammusing. Ask for the opportunity to take in the view from the roof especially in the summer where you can take in the view in daylight before your meal and then at night after your meal, either way it is stunning.
The only down side, which is no problem if you are prepared, is that the castle has no means of taking credit or debit cards, therefore it is Cash or cheque only. A small price to pay in our book. -

Carn Brea Castle Restaurant review
Eleven of us ascended on the Castle in the swirling mist - which made it very atmospheric. We were very warmly greeted by our host and one of the waitresses. As said before the building is a talking point in itself. Sadly said mist prevented us from showing our guests what must be one of the best views in Cornwall from the roof. On booking our host had proposed giving our party a set meal. This involved at least 15 starters or mezze, this also provided a great talking point and lots of oohs and aahs as everything tucked in and soon started to identify their favourites. No-one needed to have worried as there was plenty to eat. This was followed by a chicken dish, lamb chops and a spice vegetarian dish. Dessert was a small selection of Jordanian pastries. All sloshed down with plenty of wine! Finally our host entertained us with music played on a small drum. While this is a great venue for a group, couples and smaller numbers should not be put off as the restaurant is on two floors and there are also several small nooks and crannies for smaller parties. In fact we would like to return again soon as a couple or a foursome to sample the main menu. -

Carn Brea Castle Restaurant review
We all enjoyed our visit to Carn Brea Castle Restaurant immensely. The host, Mr Sawalha, was warm, friendly and entertaining. The service was very efficient and the food outstanding.
The castle itself is full of character, both inside and out with candlelit wooden tables and stone steps.
Overall, a most pleasing and memorable experience and will definitely be paying another visit next time we are down that way! -

Carn Brea Castle Restaurant review
I've been meaning to go here for years as I live about 6 miles away and thought the whole experience was one of the best I've had. The setting is stunning, yes the castle is small, you have to drive a bumpy track to get to it, and a a bit damp(to be expected) but don't let that put you off.The host is very chatty and very welcoming, the food was cooked to perfection - all in all a different experience and we'll be going back to try all the dishes on offer. We paid just over £60 for 3 courses plus drinks - very reasonable for an excellent meal ....one the best I've had. -

Carn Brea Castle Restaurant review
I am somewhat stuck as to how to rate this place, it all depends on what you go for! Amazing building, unique, but due to its location, I guess this causes some of the things I didn't like.
It really was a beautiful setting, and a very interesting drive. The candle lit tables fantastic although the building is quite leaky (but hey, it is 700 years old). The cutlery and crockery looked like they should be in a cafe really, which is a shame. The food tasted good and was served nice and hot. I had a soup to start that was very tasty. I had lamb kebab for my main, but it wasn't what I was expecting as it was lamb cutlets, which I would never order, but that's my own fault, having said that, the lamb tasted really good (I just don't like the bone and fat attached too it!). The other main we had was a chickpea type of curry and again tasted really good. The drinks, well the lemonade was flat, i guess it has to be served from bottles due to the nature of the building maybe. (i.e. I doubt they can get drinks companies to supply them where they are!)
We didn't stay for dessert, and it took a long time for our plates to be cleared and then for the bill, we actually left our table to try and prompt the bill. It was £40 for 2 starters, mains and drinks (1 alcoholic) which although not bad, I know a restaurant where the starters are the same price, and mains just a few pounds more each, and it has 2 AA Rosettes! But, I guess you are paying for the unique experience you get when dining here.
I can't say as I would ever go back, but that's just me, the Host/Owner was very friendly and will surely make your visit a memorable one, as will the drive up to road to the Castle! Be prepared :-) -

Carn Brea Castle Restaurant review
We've lived within 10 miles of Carn Brea for some years. Tonight was our first visit to this delightfully unusual, quite tricky to find restaurant.
Perched on top of huge granite boulders at a height of 700 feet above sea level, with extensive views over the bracken covered hillsides to the North Coast, this compact old hunting lodge had a very French / mediaeval feel to it in our opinion. The thick stone walls, tiny window slits and candlelit ambiance really appealed to us.
We thoroughly enjoyed the feta salad, stuffed vine leaves, tiger prawns and lamb kebabs we chose. Puddings were also excellent.
Prices were reasonable for such an incredibly unusual and memorable dining experience. Our host was warm, friendly and relaxed and we will certainly return again soon.
Totally unpretentious, and with a limited choice of drinks - but the most enjoyable evening we've had for a long time.
Don't tell too many people! -

Carn Brea Castle Restaurant review
We live close to Carn Brea and had always fancied going there. We booked for Valentine's night. We were warmly greeted when we arrived and escorted to our table which was very beautifully and romantically decorated. The ladies were gifted with a cute bottle of wine and heart shaped chocolates, I felt very spoilt and my husband a little jealous!! The interior of the castle was aged and beautiful with candles lighting it up, the atmosphere was magical. The host was lovely and made us feel very welcome and had a lovely chirpy personality which added to the enjoyment of the evening. The menu was a set one and there was plenty of choice. The food was delicious from starter to the coffee at the end, the attention to detail with everything was amazing. Well definitely be going back again, best valentines i've ever had! -

Carn Brea Castle Restaurant review
On arriving at Carn Brea Castle restaurant we were warmly greeted by our host and wowed by the ambience.
The food is superb - Mediterranean style grilled meats, mezze and curries.
Service was attentive and friendly throughout and everyone in the restaurant seemed to be having a wonderful time. As you sit quite close together, there is something of a communal feel, so possibly not the best place for an intimate date, but we felt that this added to the fun.
In all, this was an excellent evening. I was so impressed that I am hoping to book the castle for my forthcoming birthday party!
This is a unique experience and one that I totally recommend. -

Carn Brea Castle Restaurant review
I'm sure most people have an excellent time here, but me and my partner felt ignored. When we arrived the door was closed and we had to telephone to be let in - apparently they usually look out the window for people arriving and didn't see us. We were seated practically on top of a large, noisy party and weren't asked if we wanted any more drinks etc throughout our meal. When it came to asking for the bill, our request was ignored and we had to ask again 30 minutes later. The building is lovely, but very damp and cold, so wrap up warm! The food was fabulous though, and we're going to go again and hope for better service.
