Sams The Other Place review

Some of the reviews here refer to Sam's original restaurant, not their second, seafood place, The Other Place. The one where you can't book and have to queue (or wait at the bar) is Sam's. The seafood place is The Other Place.

Sam's (original) is one of the best local restaurants I know. They've just got it spot on in terms of the vibe: everything is right. Yes, you have to wait but it's worth it. Alan Dibb has it right. One evening we didn't wait, and ended up in th Lugger instead. Big mistake. Next night we went to Sam's and waited. If you have to wait, go to the bar and soak up the atmosphere. Do what I did and and drink strong Belgian beer.

The Other Place I went to once and got food posioning. That was a long time ago though ...

Marks below are for The Other Place. For Sam's original it would be 4, 4, 5.

brilliant as usual - great value, great service, great food. if you are thinking of going to some of the more expensive celebrity orientated restaurants in cornwall, think again and go here instead.

Sams

We discovered Sams in June 2006. We went in and were told 45 mins for a table. Looked around so many people waiting thought it must be worth waiting for. It was! We went back the following two nights. Brilliant. Funky, fun, great staff and of course wounderful food. Glad to hear that it is open all year round!

Sam's Fowey

I read with some surprise the negative comments posted by one reviewer. The atmosphere there is definitely laid back. The queues outside are testament to the popularity of the restaurant. If diners are seeking a quiet, refined restaurant, they should go elsewhere. If they want to eat somewhere where the food is good, the atmosphere sometimes electric, where the sounds of people enjoying themselves is sometimes deafening, where the music is sometimes too loud, then go to Sam's. But be warned, you might have to wait some time for a table. But thats part of the experience. All those people can't be wrong!

Don't know about the food but the attitude is lacking!

We tried to book a table here in September. Fine they don't take bookings. However, the attitude of the manager (or whoever it was) was just plain condesending and arrogant. Basically seemed like the subtext was we're so busy we don't need to be polite, you could wait up to an hour for a table but we'd rather you didn't as you haven't got a yacht!

Please feel free to correct me if you have had a different experience!
