Langmans Restaurant - Callington
review by: Jan Honey

My husband & I ate at Langmans last night and it was a truly memorable experience. As previous reviewers have commented, you are treated as a personal guest and treated to a wonderful meal of the highest culinary standard. They took particular note of culinary/dietary restrictions and made sure everyone was able to enjoy their meal to the full. Everything about the evening was excellent and left us wondering when we could arrange to visit the West Country again, so that we could enoy the experience again. Our only regret is that we live so far away! Do give this place a try - you will not be disapointed.

a hidden delight

as the agreeable reviewer hints, Langmans is simply a hidden delight. Having stumbled across Callington while attemting to find 'something specially different' the Tourist Board have uncovered what i consider The Best restaurant in England. Certainly, one can find some very decent flavours, tastes and wines, and then occassionally some supreme service and hospitality; very rarely do you find top-class standards set in every catagory. The food is not pretencious whilst still asking your palette to delight in delightful and novel sensations, the wine served with every recommendation by your hosts, but it is service that is , quite frankly, out of this world. I visit, with partner, but once-a-year (although would love it to be more), yet am treated as a long-lost memver of the family. from the moment you enter the sumptious lounge, to the moment you are offered a farewell drink, the evening can simply be described as an 'experience'. and what an experience it is too. Outstanding.

Langmans

Not a town many people stop by on their way into & out of Cornwall, but they should if they're foodies!
Callington has other charms, but the greatest for me is the delightful restaurant on Church street which goes by the name of 'Langmans'
With limited opening nights [usually Thursday, Friday & Saturday] & a couple of dozen covers, you really have to phone ahead & plan your gastronomique treat in advance. Anton [the chef] spends half his week in preparation for the 3 or so nights he is open, painstakingly devising a 6 course menu each week & hand preparing every morsel. Gail, Anton's wife and hostess, is gracious and attentive, treating each guest as a personal friend. It is definately worth phoning ahead & asking Gail if she knows of a local Hotel or B&B, because you will have a long evening and wont want to drive home!
