Cornwall restaurant reviews >> Ripleys

Former Rick Stein head chef, Paul Ripley's Michelin starred restaurant. Whilst there's plenty of fish on the menu there is also locally sourced meat and game

Went with friends for dinner and enjoyed an excellent meal although we thought the menu was a bit limited and could have done with an extra option for both starter and main course. The crab starter whilst expensive was delicious and the turbot fantastic; pudding was good too. They must eat early in St Merryn because our 8.00pm table was near the bar and the restaurant was nearly full, in fact only one other booking came after us.Considering I had booked months ago I was disappointed with the table but there is not much you can do when it is full and I guess I should have asked for a specific table when I booked. Service was excellent, friendly and polite however the restaurant somehow lacked the buzz it had last time I went but I think that is down to the personality of the staff.Paul deserves his Michelin star and the qaulity of his cooking is consistently good.We all agreed it was an excellent meal but my friends thought it was less of an occaision compared with another local restaurant we had been to in the same price bracket.Overall an excellent meal and we shall go back when next in Cornwall.
