Tolcarne Inn review
review by: Chris
18th 2007f April 2007

Went to the Tolcarne on Easter Sunday as part of a group of about 10. I think we arrived pretty much when they wanted to close the kitchen so maybe that affected the service a bit.

My food was fine. I had a large portion of fish and chips, which was suitably large. Then again it was about £12 and the pub is next to the biggest fishing port in Britain!
The fish was pretty good and I even ate the batter , which I don't usually bother with. Didn't seem to be a proporionately large amount of chips but I was pretty stuffed by the time I finished.

Other people at the table weren't as happy. The crab salad seemed a bit of rip off particularly considering they were out of salad (despite there being a Coop across the road) and didn't really try to make up for the fact.

The seafood platter looked quite impressive and might have been a good deal.

One of the Tolcarne's saving graces is the outside eating area, which on a sunny day like we had makes a things a bit more forgivable!

If we had got there an hour earlier the service score would hae been higher, so partly our fault.
