We went to the restaurant on Thursday and having read the reviews on this site ordered two sides to go with our main dishes. As lovely as they were we really didn't need them, the main meal portions were huge (and I'm a bit eater). No compromise on the quality either, it was top notch (even better than the Alba). Lovely atmosphere despite it being very quiet on this winter night. Looking forward to visiting again sometime soon.

After reading reviews in the Sunday press, we had to seek the Porthminster cafe out.We went on a lovely day in September, with our 2 young children! We were all made to feel very welcome and had a fantastic time. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. The best fish and chips I have ever tasted. I agree that the portions were a little on the small side but it did leave you wanting to explore the pudding menu! A gem situated on the best beach in Cornwall, in a wonderful resort. We will return!

We had a lovely lunch here, the laid back setting with good quality food was great. The staff were friendly, polite and patient. I can see that some people may think the portions were on the small side but i saw this as quality rather than quantity. Plus it allowed us room for dessert, which again, although small, was fantastic (strawberry frangipane) and we left feeling satisfied, rather than over indulged.
The downside for me was the coffee. For somewhere trying to bring the austalian cafe culture (where coffee is a huge thing) to cornwall, my cappuccino was a let down...a barista is needed!! But that aside, we enjoyed it and would go again

This is a well presented cafe with a stunning view over the beach. The service was excellent although the food was very over priced. At £50 per head we were expecting the mains to be more exciting. We both had fish and thought that the meals were bland with small portions.

On the strength of a wonderful lunch at Porthminster Cafe in 2006 we booked four nights in St. Ives for 2007 so that we could return and return. Michael does a fantastic job (chef/owner) and what comes from the kitchen is perfecto.

One small wrist slap though - usually bread etc. "come with" and is readily acceptable as a munchie before and during our meal. At Porthminster we said "YES - YES" when asked if we wanted bread (and also olives) and we munched whilest perusing the menu. Watch out - these items are charged for separately when bill comes - should be a matter of course (at least the bread).

If that is our only gripe, and if we are going back two or three times on the memory of one lunch, then "Keep It Coming" Porthminster !! We love you.

I had seen this restaurant in a TV series with an Australian chef and a fusion menu so I booked in for lunch and it was worth the 50 mile drivefrom Port Isaac. Modern, minimalistic, painted white with canvas sails on the ceiling anda deck area outside it has fabulous views across the beach. The menu wasn't quite as fusion as I had imagined and all four of us chose haddock and chips.Fantastic and an excellent bottle of white wine. Young friendly staff, with a real wide age range of customers from young families to those of us of a more mature age.Super pudding and coffee. Better than Rick Steins chip shop and about the same price. This is a must go restaurant.

On a very busy and chilly spring break Sunday night we had a lovely time on the terrace. Spectacular views and until the propane heater went empty we were quite comfortable. Even though staff were working hard all weekend they were still able to remain friendly and patient. My only complaint is that turbot is such a lovely fish it should not be spoiled with chocolate in the wine sauce. Yuck! The cocount and crab red mullet was wonderful. Order it instead.

We love the position of this Restaurant, and have had many a good meal there. We have found the evening menu very expensive compared to other times of the day. We did have a wonderful meal there with our family one evening, and as we sat outside and ate with a view of the sea and good food it was heaven.

The Porthminster Café is in a lovely position, just above Porthminster Beach in St Ives, and is open throughout the summer each year. The food is good, but not good enough to justify the prices.

We have eaten there on a couple of occasions. Both times, we felt that the portions were rather small. Admittedly this was at lunch time, but I suspect that there may be a similar problem in the evening.
