The Ambassadors Table review
review by: John Keverne
29th 2006f October 2006
Ate here on 14th October 2006. Shown to our table adjacent to the bar, after a warm welcome at reception. The gas fire lit in the grate and subdued lighting helped to create ambience. Fresh flowers were displayed on each candlelit table and the two tropical fish tanks helped to soothe the senses.
We ordered four Moroccan soups which contained plenty of vegetables and were very pleasantly lightly spiced. Lemon Sorbet followed to freshen the palate. The Fillet Steak and Cornfed Chicken were very generous servings and were offered with a choice of sauces. The meals were accompanied by a medley of vegetables, carrots, broccoli, saute potato and courgettes - all locally grown. There were a wide selection of desserts and a generous cheese board displaying Cornish cheeses. Truffles and selected coffees completed the meal.
In conclusion, the superb restaturant is extremely well serviced offering food of the highest standard. I couldn't find anything to criticise it in any way - nothing but praise. The bill for the four of us came to £100 - excellent value.

08th 2006f August 2006
On 5th August 2006, we decided to try this new restaurant at the Tarbert Hotel. While we were looking at the menu, we were offered a choice of bread rolls with either butter or an oil and balsamic vinegar dip. We were also offered complimentary mineral water, which we declined in favour of tap water.
I started with scallops, served on a bed of mashed potatoes, with a sweet chilli sauce on the side. Norman enjoyed Parma ham and goat’s cheese with salad. We both made the same choice for our main course: brill and lobster. This was served with sauté potatoes, spicy mash, broccoli, carrots and kidney beans. I was unable to finish this course and we left quite a lot of vegetables.
After two substantial courses, we were unable to manage a dessert and just took coffee – double espresso for me and cappuccino for Norman. With a bottle of house white wine, the bill came to £59.60, not including service. We shall certainly return to the Ambassador’s Table.
